Yarra City Council respects your privacy. Council provides a Privacy Statement to allow you to make an informed decision about whether you wish to participate in the online business directory.

The online business directory is a communication tool which will provide information regarding businesses and community groups in Yarra, provide for more effective communication between Council and business, and facilitate management of training and events to support business.

You will be asked to provide information when applying to register in the directory, such as the business name, category (e.g. industry), address, telephone number and email address as well as the details of a contact person. This information will be displayed in the public directory, unless you choose to deactivate it. This provides you with complimentary advertising and promotional opportunities.

Should you fail to provide some of the information requested, or you fail to accept the privacy statement, your registration will not be accepted.

The directory information is used by Council to communicate with the businesses listed, which may include undertaking consultation through online surveys. The online directory may also be used for online bookings (as part of the training, networking and events program).

Council's database administrator will filter and monitor all requests made through the online business directory, which includes emails from customers to businesses (e.g. a customer enquiry about a particular service).

All information collected will be made available to Council, to enable departments to notify you of opportunities such as grants funding, upcoming events, training and development, networking, planning developments etc.

You consent to the information provided in the questionnaire being used for the above purposes and other permitted secondary purposes in accordance with privacy laws. You understand that Council may disclose the information in certain circumstances to other organisations. Council will not provide mailing lists to businesses for their marketing purposes. The system is designed to prevent global emails from businesses for their marketing purposes.

You also understand that you may apply to Council for access to and / or amendment of the
information. Requests for access and or correction should be made to the Economic
Development Department.
